Bill and Walter are back on Ch. 2

Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson are returning to the anchor chairs on WBBM-TV Ch. 2 in a bid to revive the station’s news ratings.

Reporter/anchor Pender out at Ch. 32

Nancy Pender is set to leave WFLD-Ch. 32 next month after 13 years as a reporter and weekend anchor at the Fox-owned station.

A Channel 32 spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday that Pender’s contract is not being renewed.

English muffin secrets safe at Thomas’ for now

Nooks and crannies and Twinkies don’t go together, at least not just yet.

A federal appeals court has upheld an injunction blocking one of only seven people who know the recipe for Thomas’ English Muffins from jumping to a rival.

Tuesday’s ruling by the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia lets Grupo Bimbo SAB, a Mexican food company that owns the Thomas’ brand, continue blocking Chris Botticella from jumping to rival Hostess Brands Inc. Get the full story »

BP set to put first American in charge

BP Plc is expected to announce in the next 24 hours that Chief Executive Tony Hayward will step down and be replaced by Bob Dudley, a soft-spoken American unlikely to repeat the gaffes that have come to define Hayward in many Americans’ minds.

Ex-Lehman exec to head compliance at AIG

American International Group Inc. has picked David DeMuro, the former head of compliance and regulation at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., as its new head of compliance and regulatory affairs.

DeMuro, expected to start at AIG next week, will be working for his former boss from Lehman, Thomas Russo. The former chief legal officer at the now-failed Wall Street bank, Russo this year was appointed as the government-controlled insurer’s general counsel. DeMuro will be AIG’s deputy general counsel. Junior Hofer takes over as CEO at Spring-Green

Plainfield-based Spring-Green Lawn Care Corp. announced Tuesday that  it named Ted Hofer its chief executive.

Herencia leaves Midwest Banc Holdings payroll

Roberto R. Herencia has left Midwest Banc Holdings Inc., whose Midwest Bank unit failed last month, but has signed a consulting agreement that could pay him $25,000 a month.

Makarewicz retirement starts Ryerson CEO search

Tribune staff | Ryerson Inc. Chief Executive Stephen E. Makarewicz told its board of directors he plans to retire before the end of 2012 and the company announced Tuesday  it had begun a global search for his successor.

Makarewicz, 63, who has been CEO and president of the Chicago-based company since August 2008, said he plans to retire by age 65. He previously served as president of Ryerson South from June 2000 to October 2007 and was president, CEO and chief operating offer of J.M. Metals Co., Inc. from October 1994 until its January 2006 merger with Ryerson.

Wachovia’s Mike Jones joins BMO Capital Markets

Tribune staff report | BMO Capital Markets, the investment and corporate banking arm of BMO Financial Group, has announced five hires for its M&A, financial sponsors, healthcare and industrials groups.

Among the hires, Mike Jones joins the M&A Group in Chicago, where he will work in the food and consumer sector. Jones comes from Wachovia Securities, where he most recently headed consumer and retail M&A.

UAL hires Sabatino as general counsel

By Wailin Wong  | UAL Corp, the parent company of United Airlines, said it has hired Thomas J. Sabatino Jr. as general counsel.

Sabatino joins the airline March 29 and will report to UAL Chief Executive Glenn Tilton, the company said in a statement. Sabatino previously was general counsel at pharmaceutical company Schering Plough, which merged with Merck last year. Before that, Sabatino was general counsel at Baxter International.

Walgreens may offer drugs to Delta workers

Associated Press | Media reports on Wednesday indicated
drugstore chain Walgreen Co. is in talks about a plan to offer
prescription drugs directly to employees of Delta Air Lines Inc.

Walgreen and Delta would not confirm any negotiations. The Deerfield,
company is the largest U.S. drugstore chain. It sells prescription
drugs directly to Caterpillar Inc. employees under an arrangement that
appeared to be similar to Wednesday’s reported discussions.
